MINERVINI CHASING HOME TRACK TREBLE

Provincial Racing NSW

MARK Minervini takes three horses to his home meeting tomorrow – with a realistic chance of winning with all of them.

Lee Magorrian will ride both Ocean Joy (Maiden Plate, 900m) and Rubi’s Serve (Conditional Benchmark 64 Handicap, 1400m) for the Newcastle trainer, who has also booked apprentice William Stanley for Shall Be in the Benchmark 64 Handicap, 900m.

Minervini is backing up both Ocean Joy and Rubi’s Serve after they raced at the same track last Saturday, whilst the lightly-raced and promising Shall Be is coming off a short break.

With the rail out eight metres for the eight-race program, importantly the Minervini trio all hve drawn well.

Ocean Joy and Rubi’s Serve will both jump from the inside barrier, and Shall Be has drawn four in a field of nine.

Minervini has taken advantage of former country apprentice Stanley’s 3kg claim to lessen Shall Be’s weight to 57.5kg.

The Shalaa three-year-old has already won two of his only four starts, and his trainer regards him as “a horse with a future”.

“Shall Be was very good when he won a Midway Benchmark 64 Handicap over the 900m first-up at Newcastle three weeks ago,” Minervini said.

“With William’s claim, he will carry the same weight as he did then.

“Shall Be won second up at his first preparation, and should settle in the first two or three.

“I’m sure he will prove hard to beat.”

Minervini had no qualms lining both Ocean Joy and Rubi’s Serve up again after they were beaten as favorites in respective races a week ago.

Ocean Joy was strongly supported when sixth in a Midway Maiden Plate (900m), whilst Rubi’s Serve, who had won two of her previous three starts, also ran sixth in a Provincial Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m).

“Ocean Joy worked hard from an awkward draw, and it’s hard to do it at both ends in these 900m races,” Minervini said.

“With a much better draw this time, she can certainly run well.”

Minervini opted for the 1400m race for Rubi’s Serve rather than the longer 1600m Benchmark 64 Handicap.

“Rubi’s Serve spent a few weeks on the water walker after she won on the Beaumont track on Boxing Day, and perhaps ran out of puff toward end last Saturday,” he said.

“She has taken nice improvement from that, and looks to be in another suitable race to get another win.”
