RACINGNSW has added one of the races lost at Gosford today to Saturday’s Newcastle program.
The Class 1/Maiden Plate, which was to have been run at 2100m at Gosford, will now be held over 2200m at Newcastle as the opening race on the program.
The last six races were called off at Gosford today after RacingNSW stewards, along with senior jockeys, inspected the area where jockey Ash Morgan said his mount, $2.15 favorite Emery, which finished third of four runners in the second race, the Super Maiden Plate (1100m), slipped and became unbalanced rounding the turn after passing the winning post.
After consultation with the jockeys, stewards determined that the remaining six races should be postponed due to safety concerns.
Only four races were run at the previous Gosford meeting on March 27 when stewards also called a halt when another horse slipped and became unbalanced rounding the home turn.
Gosford resumed racing on February 22 after a nine months’ hiatus during which major works were undertaken, which included the home turn being cambered to a gradient of six per cent to maximise competitive racing, remediation of the reverse camber in the home straight, removal of track undulations and a new parade ring.
The club held that meeting and also its 1200m Provincial-Midway Championships Qualifier fixture on March 15 without such problems.
