IT’S a ‘app’ening thing!
Hawkesbury trainer Marc Chevalier will be sweating on a decision by RacingNSW vets before knowing which Lord Mayor’s Cup he can run his stayer Torrens in at the weekend.
Rather confusing as there is a Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens, and a Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1800m) at Eagle Farm the same day.
Chevalier intends to accept on Wednesday morning with Torrens in both races, and will await a RacingNSW vets’ decision via an app as to whether they believe he is fit to start in Sydney.
Torrens was ruled out of the April 13 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on race morning by RNSW stewards acting on veterinary advice even though Chevalier and the seven-year-old stallion’s regular vet considered he was fit to run.
“My vet will come and film Torrens trotting after he has worked on Thursday morning,” Chevalier explained on Tuesday.
“That will be forwarded on to RacingNSW vets and, through an app they now use, a decision will be made about him running at Rosehill Gardens.
“I rode Torrens work myself on the course proper at Hawkesbury this morning, and he felt fine.
“My preference is to stay in Sydney and run at Rosehill, but I have to also accept with him at Eagle Farm just in case.
“It’s very frustrating as we have already missed out on starting in the last three Sydney Cups.
“He had a suspensory problem in 2022 and then pulled a muscle last year on a wet track in the Chairman’s Quality a week beforehand.”
With regular rider Jenny Duggan sidelined through suspension, Chevalier has booked Louis Beuzelin for Torrens at Rosehill.
At this stage, he has not finalised a riding engagement for the Eagle Farm event.
Chevalier says Torrens’ Singapore owner has not made a decision when his horse will be retired to stud.
“I would like to run the horse on Saturday, and then the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) again at Rosehill on June 15,” he said.
Chevalier also intends dually accepting with his smart mare Everyone’s A Star at Rosehill on Saturday.
She is in both the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) and 3 & 4YO Benchmark 72 Handicap over the same distance.
Everyone’s A Star has 60kg in both races, and her trainer is favoring the Midway if she draws well.
Everyone’s A Star won three out of four races in Sydney before finishing 12th to Dollar Magic in a Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) at the Scone Saturday metropolitan meeting on May 18.
“The track was worn at the end of two days of racing and, with a few showers, she wasn’t comfortable at all,” Chevalier said.
“But I’ve been really pleased with her since.”
