McEVOY’S FEEDBACK PROPOSES FILLY’S SHOT AT THE ROSEBUD

KRISTEN Buchanan has been encouraged by jockey Kerrin McEvoy’s feedback ahead of Saturday’s The Rosebud (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The Wyong trainer is giving three-year-old filly Winning Proposal her chance for black type success against her own age in the $200,000 feature to be run under Quality conditions over 1100m.

McEvoy will ride Winning Proposal for the first time in a race after partnering her in a 900m Group trial at Rosehill on August 6 when she defeated older and well-established mares Joliestar and Red Card.

Buchanan’s filly jumped from the outside in a field of five, and her pace soon took her to the front and she was never headed.

“I took Winning Proposal to Rosehill for the trial principally to get Kerrin’s feedback on her,” Buchanan explained today.

“He told me I would be mad not to run her in The Rosebud.

“Kerrin was happy to take the ride, so I’m looking forward to running her on Saturday.

“Obviously this is her toughest test against some good young horses, but I’m very happy with her.

“She is in good order and drops a lot in weight to the minimum 53kg.

“It would be lovely for Winning Proposal and her owners if she could gain some black type.”

A $50,000 purchase for Vardy Thoroughbreds at last year’s Inglis Premier yearling sale in Melbourne, the Shalaa filly is the third dam of the More Than Ready mare Proposal.

Winning Proposal wasted no time in her first season showing her ability, having raced five times as a two-year-old for two wins and two placings, and finishing a close fourth to Fully Lit in the $2m Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Royal Randwick in February.

She made a winning debut in a 900m Midway Maiden Plate at Newcastle on January 27, defeating older horses Sir Tom and Sharpen The Knives.

Winning Proposal carried 59kg to win a midweek 1100m at Warwick Farm on June 26 before carrying the same weight on a Saturday when third to Brave One over the same distance at Randwick on July 6.

She is the only “girl” in Saturday’s race, and with 53kg, now meets Brave One (also 53kg) on 3kg better terms.

Fillies have won The Rosebud twice in recent times. Anthony Cummings’ She’s A Fox carried 56kg to win the race when it was run over 1200m at Warwick Farm in 2012.

Ciaron Maher’s Tiz Invincible had 58kg when she was successful last year at Rosehill at the current 1100m.

She subsequently also won both the Group Furious Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m), run at Randwick.

Winning Proposal was at $18 with TAB.com.au on Thursday morning, with Godolphin colt Tarpaulin (Zac Lloyd), successful at his last two starts at Warwick Farm and Randwick, the $3.60 favorite.

Buchanan also accepted with the filly for Sunday’s Domeland Mona Lisa Prelude (1200m) at her home track meeting, and she drew the outside in a field of nine.

She also has Drama Dodger, who drew barrier seven, in the Prelude, for which the winner automatically secures exemption from ballot for the $200,000 Listed Mona Lisa (1350m) on September 1.

Eleven horses have accepted for the Star 104.5 Wyong Cup Prelude (2000m) on Sunday.

As with the Mona Lisa Prelude, the Cup Prelude winner also becomes exempt from ballot for the $250,000 Listed Big Dance Eligibility Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) – to be sponsored by Wyong Leagues Group – on September 6.
