DEAL DONE QUICKLY WITH KURRINDA BLOODSTOCK'S "KOSSIE" FAVORITE

TALK about beating the starter!

Hunter-based syndicator Kurrinda Bloodstock never had to raise a sweat to get their good mare So You Pence into the $2m The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 18.

As expected the ruling $5 favorite for the feature sprint for country-trained horses at The Everest meeting was quickly picked up by slot holder, Inverell’s Tattersalls Hotel.

In fact, quicker than you might think.

“Greg Radley was still reading out the names of the winning slot holders on Sky Racing this morning when So You Pence’s trainer Matt Dale got a phone call,” Kurrinda boss Sean Driver said this afternoon.

“It didn’t take long to finalise the deal."

“I understand the hotel syndicate spent $5000 on Kosciuszko tickets.”

The Kurrinda syndicate which races So You Pence no doubt will be hoping history repeats itself next month.

A Tattersalls Hotel syndicate was associated with the now retired Far Too Easy when he won The Kosciuszko two years ago for then Murwillumbah trainer David McColm (now based at the Gold Coast) and Melbourne ace Craig Williams, ironically defeating the Dale-trained Front Page.

So You Pence, the seven-year-old daughter of now deceased international star So You Think, has won five of her 10 starts.

She hasn’t raced since scoring easily over 1300m at Randwick on July 25 in a Benchmark 78 Handicap at her first start since last November, and Dale has purposely kept her fresh for the October 18 assignment.

“So You Pence is in exceptional order,” Driver said.

“We couldn’t have her any better. She will have an exhibition gallop between races at Goulburn on Friday, and then have a jumpout 10 days later."

“That will have her spot on for The Kosciuszko.”

Tim Clark rode So You Pence in her latest success, and not surprisingly sticks with her as he tries to win the ninth running of the annual race for the first time.

Meanwhile, Kurrinda Bloodstock is looking forward to the Goulburn meeting – and not only because So You Pence will gallop.

Her stablemate, three-year-old The Local, a son of Acrobat, will debut in the Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1100m), and Keagan Latham has the mount.

“The Local had two nice trials at Randwick earlier in the year, and we have high hopes with him,” Driver said.

Another winning The Kosciuszko ticket holder, Newcastle’s Leigh Newman, will be represented by the Scone-trained Inazuma Boy, which he part-owns.
