TENENBAUM HEADS FOR MING DYNASTY AND NOT RUN TO THE ROSE

DUAL entry Tenenbaum will tackle the Ming Dynasty Quality at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday as he seeks to add black type to his resume.

Leading Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup nominated the beautifully-bred colt for both the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) and Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m), and favours the latter.

And jockey Chad Schofield has told Widdup he will ride Tenenbaum at his allotted 54kg.

Schofield partnered the Snitzel three-year-old first-up when he carried 61kg topweight and easily defeated four rivals in a midweek 3YO Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m) at Canterbury on August 26.

“Tenenbaum has trained on well since that race, and the 1400m of the Ming Dynasty looks the better race for him on Saturday,” Widdup said this evening.

Tenenbaum has 55kg under the set weights plus penalties conditions of the Run To The Rose, and is assured of a start in the Ming Dynasty, where 14 can run.

A $750,000 yearling purchase for Widdup’s major client Mulberry, Tenenbaum has raced only four times for two wins.

Whilst the $1m Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) – also at Rosehill - is only a fortnight away after Saturday, Widdup said no definite plans had been made to head toward that Group 1 feature next.

“We’ll be guided by how Tenenbaum performs in the Ming Dynasty before making a decision on a Golden Rose start,” he said.

He was, however, amongst the entries with stablemate Hyperbolic, for the $1.5m Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 3 when nominations closed today.

Meanwhile, Widdup is delighted with Savvy Hallie’s progress since her out well below par first-up defeat in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 22.

Nash Rawiller again rides the mare in Saturday’s Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) against her own sex.

Savvy Hallie had trialled well leading into the Toy Show, but didn’t finish off and ran last of seven runners behind Prima Bella, beaten just over five lengths.

“She is in great order,” Widdup said. “I could not be more pleased with her, and her second-up record is excellent (two wins from three starts).”

Prior to acceptances on Wednesday morning, Tenenbaum was at $9 with TAB.com.au for the Ming Dynasty, and Savvy Hallie was at a seemingly generous $13 for the Sheraco.

Whilst there were no provincial winners at Queanbeyan today, that wasn’t the case at Muswellbrook.

Wyong trainers Nacim Dilmi and Shaun Harvey, along with Newcastle’s Andrew MacDonald, all enjoyed success.

Dilmi took the Maiden Plate (1500m) with $2.70 favorite The Prospect (Alysha Collett), and Harvey the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1750m) with another favorite Gemtiki (Aaron Bullock) at $1.80.

The Prospect, a Trapeze Artist four-year-old, was a $200,000 yearling purchase and broke through at his seventh start.

Five-year-old Almanzor mare Gemtiki fetched only $600 when sold online in May and has certainly proven a bargain buy, having won two (both at Muswellbrook) of her last five starts for Harvey, picking up nearly $28,000.

MacDonald’s Grunt four-year-old Force March collected his first victory in the Maiden Handicap (1280m) at his fifth start.

He was a $5500 purchase online in April 2024.

Along with the Widdup pair, there were eight other provincial entries for the Epsom.

Fellow Hawkesbury trainer Fabio Martino nominated last Saturday’s home track winner All Star, leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees entered Loch Eagle, Lord Of Biscay, Night Agent, Rivellino and Tavi Time, fellow Newcastle trainer Jason Deamer has It’s A Knockout, and Wyong’s Nacim Dilmi entered Matcha Latte.
