THE cheers could be heard as far away as Poland!
Newcastle part-owners Peter and Jen Robinson couldn’t be at Rosehill Gardens yesterday to see Don’t Forget Jack break through for his first Sydney win as they were in the Polish city Krakow, but made sure they were keen spectators from afar, thanks to the wonder of modern technology.
The lightly-raced three-year-old added to his impressive record, posting his fourth success at only his eighth start.
One of three winners for talented apprentice Braith Nock, Don’t Forget Jack ($6.50) took the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1400m), running down leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees’ first-up Scone carnival winner Tasoraay ($3.70), who made a bold bid to lead all the way.
“We are on a European holiday, and got up at 4.30am to watch the Rosehill race on our I-Pad,” Peter Robinson said last night.
“It was a great thrill and good to see Don’t Forget Jack bounce back from his last run when nothing went right in the run at the same track a fortnight ago.
“We knew he was a much better horse than that.”
The Robinsons and son Ben are part-owners of the Headwater gelding, who was named in honour of Jen Robinson’s late father Jack Stott, a former successful Novocastrian businessman.
Stott’s NCP Printing for many years was the official printer of Newcastle Jockey Club racebooks.
“Jack loved his racing, and it will be four years in October since he passed away,” son-in-law Peter Robinson said.
“Don’t Forget Jack was foaled around the time we lost him.
“Sadly Jack never got to see Don’t Forget Jack or his older full brother Remember Jack race.”
Remember Jack, now a five-year-old, has won three races, whilst Don’t Forget Jack has already passed that number – with seemingly more to come.
The brothers are out of the Lonhro mare Innishbeg, who was prepared at Newcastle by David Atkins.
She won five races and was placed seven times from 26 starts, and has been a wonderful producer.
All Innishbeg’s foals to race so far have been winners.
Her first foal Brown Ben (by Big Brown and named after the Robinson’s son), won seven races, including five in Adelaide, and second foal to race Aspect (by Pluck) won twice, including a debut Group 3 victory at Flemington in 2016.
Innishbeg’s next foal Kosimoto (by Testa Rossa) never made it to the track, and she slipped twice to Pluck before foaling Blood Thunder (by All Too Hard).
He won twice at the Sunshine Coast before being retired.
Innishbeg then foaled Remember Jack, and slipped to Press Statement the following season before foaling Don’t Forget Jack.
“We were offered a six-figure amount for Don’t Forget Jack earlier on, but the syndicate decided not to sell,” Peter Robinson said.
“And we sold Innishbeg after Jack passed away, and she is now at Vinery Stud in the Hunter Valley.”
. Now trained by Annabel and Rob Archibald at Warwick Farm, Don’t Forget Jack scored first-up at Hawkesbury in a Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m) on May 15.
He was ridden then by Wyong apprentice Anna Roper, who finished third in yesterday’s race on $3.20 favorite Hell To Pay.
