THE HORSE WHO LOVES TO TRAVEL

KURRINDA Bloodstock’s consistent gelding Boston Rocks loves to travel.

So much so that he has now won five city races – three in Sydney and two in Melbourne.

The Hunter-based syndicator’s five-year-old boosted his earnings to near $600,000 with an impressive Caulfield victory last Saturday.

And just as the famous Willie Nelson song goes, he’ll be back on the road again next week.

Boston Rocks’ defeat of favored pair Hedged and Beast Mode in the Listed Sprint (1100m) was his seventh overall win and first black type success.

“Boston Rocks is such a genuine horse,” Kurrinda principal Sean Driver said today.

“He doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and had no luck at his previous start when seventh in the $2m The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Royal Randwick last month.

“The Caulfield race was clever placement by trainer Matt Dale, who will take him back there on Saturday week for another Listed sprint, the Doveton Stakes over the same course.

“Boston Rocks is such a good doer and a very good traveller.

“Michael Dee, who rode him so well last Saturday, is booked again.”

A $100,000 yearling at the 2022 Inglis HTBA sale in Sydney, the son of Hellbent began his career with Scott Singleton at Scone and subsequently was transferred to Nathan Doyle at Newcastle, who won race with him at Gosford, Wyong and Randwick.

Boston Rocks joined Dale last year, and furthered his winning record with successes at Canterbury, Rosehill Gardens and The Valley before his Caulfield triumph.

Meanwhile, Private Harry has been transferred to Wild Oaks, a pre-training and agistment facility in the Camden Valley.

The star four-year-old was relocated from Kurrinda’s farm in the Hunter Valley the day after Yulong Investments announced on November 4 that would join champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller for his next preparation, after Nathan Doyle prepared him at Newcastle for his first seven starts.

He won his first five races, including the $3m Sunlight Plate at the Magic Millions meeting held at the Sunshine Coast in January, and Group 1 The Galaxy at Rosehill Gardens in March.

“Private Harry (by Harry Angel) is doing well and in light pre-training going through his rehabilitation process,” Driver said.

Kurrinda also has so far unraced younger relations to Private Harry, whose spring was aborted because of injury after he ran fifth to Briasa in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 4.

Lance Corporal is a three-year-old by Anders, and the as yet unnamed two-year-old filly is by Captivant.

“Lance Corporal has been with well-known horseman Luke Morgan at Tamworth for nine or 10 weeks and will go to Nathan (Doyle) at Newcastle in a few weeks,” Driver said.

“The Captivant filly also will be trained by Nathan, and has already been in the system twice.

“She will go back to Nathan at Newcastle in three weeks.”
