MULTIPLE premiership winning Kembla Grange trainers Rob and Luke Price are having one last throw at the stumps with Our Gold Hope at Doomben on Saturday.
And the father and son tea, is hoping a return north will help click the mare back into winning form in the Group 3 Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Plate (1600m), with Tom Sherry aboard.
Our Gold Hope, narrowly beaten in the 2024 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm, is listed to be sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare sale on Tuesday.
“Perhaps this is the mare’s last run for us,” Luke Price said today.
“But you never know, the new owner might ask us to continue training her after she is sold.”
Our Gold Hope has been placed twice since her narrow Oaks defeat two years ago, but hasn’t won since taking a fillies and mares’ Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m) at Hawkesbury in February 2024.
She didn’t flatter when 10th to Asterix in the Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) on May 9 at her fourth run this preparation.
“We put her out on grass for four days after the Gosford race to freshen her up,” Luke Price said.
“Our Gold Hope worked at Kembla Grange this morning, and will be floated to Queensland this evening.
“I know Brisbane has had a lot of rain in recent weeks, and we’re hoping for a drying track on Saturday.”
Our Gold Hope is at $19 with TAB.com.au for her Doomben assignment, with Pinito the $4.40 favorite in an open contest.
Whilst Our Gold Hope heads north, Team Price will have two runners at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Brock Ryan rides both Mogwai (Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap, 1400m) and Century Song (Benchmark 78 Handicap, 1000m).
Mogwai goes to town following a second at home on May 9 at his second run back, whilst Century Song is a most interesting runner, resuming from a spell after putting together three wins on the bounce at Nowra and Kembla Grange (twice) over summer when last in work.
“Mogwai wasn’t suited last time when the race was a stop and start affair,” Luke Price said.
“He is nicely drawn on Saturday, and has never been far away whenever we have run him in town.
“Winkers come off, and visors go back on.
“Century Song did a terrific job last time, breaking through convincingly at Nowra in December in a Super Maiden Plate (1100m), and then scoring twice at home over 1000m.
“Now he goes to a Benchmark 78, and he’s had two trials in preparation for his resumption.
“I actually like him being drawn wide, and hopefully he gets a fast run race.
“We’re looking forward to another good preparation with him.”
