TEAM PRICE HITS THE NEW SEASON RUNNING AT HOME

ROB and Luke Price began the new season in the best style with a popular Kembla Grange quinella yesterday.

Whilst the father and son training combination relinquished the dual premiership titles (local and All trainers) they had held the previous three seasons to Mitch Beer and George Carpenter, at least they are back in front in the former after the opening fixture.

Team Price could not have been more pleased with the outcome of the Provincial Benchmark 68 Handicap (1200m), where Zaragoza ($2 favorite) beat stablemate Satness ($10).

Zaragoza was ridden by Jean Van Overmeire, and Brock Ryan partnered Satness.

“Zaragoza is a real Kembla specialist,” Luke Price said today.

“All his five career wins have been here, the first when owned by Godolphin and the next four since we bought him online just over two years ago.

“Taking blinkers off seems to have really switched him on at his last two runs.

“He ran third to Let’s Go Again (fourth in a Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap, 1100m at Royal Randwick yesterday) on July 16, and then won yesterday.

“Satness carried 1kg more than Zaragoza, and his performance was terrific as well, finishing off strongly.

“He is a dead-set marvel.

“Satness is an eight-year-old we have had right from the start, and he’s won over half a million dollars (nine wins and 25 placings).

“He is such an easy horse to train, and a delight to have around the stables.”

Whilst Zaragoza has been placed several times in town, Team Price has not given up hope of breaking his “duck” in town.

“We’re looking at a 1200m Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap at Randwick on Saturday week,” Luke Price said.

“But he needs it wet.

“About 20mm of rain leading up to that meeting would be really suitable.”

Team Price was the only local winner at yesterday’s meeting, and their quinella result earned them five points in the All Trainers’ premiership race, equal second with John O’Shea and Tom Charlton behind Bjorn Baker (8), who scored with both Celebrity and Harry’s Hussey, and also finished second with Sinister.
