LEADING Kembla Grange trainers Rob and Luke Price have a bevy of runners at home tomorrow as they chase a hat-trick of premierships.
The father and son duo holds a clear lead in the All Trainers’ title, and is four wins up on nearest rival Mitch Beer in the Local Trainers’ premiership.
Team Price has amassed 106 points – based on 3, 2 and 1 points for the first three placegetters – in the All Trainers’ premiership, and has prepared 17 winners at home so far since August last year.
Tomorrow’s meeting, where the rail is 6m out and course manager Dave Anderson has posted a ‘Good 4’ rating, is the third last of the 2024-25 racing year, with the final two fixtures scheduled for July 17 (Thursday) and 26 (Saturday).
“Rob and Luke are great supporters of their home meetings, and have had another successful season,” Illawarra Turf Club racing manager Zane Campbell said this morning.
“Whilst they have a big lead in the All Trainers’ premiership, tomorrow’s meeting could have a big bearing on the Local Trainers’ premiership winner.”
Team Price’s Kembla Grange runners are:
JAMARNI and ZEEMA (Maiden Plate, 1600m);
COMMANDING BELLE (2YO Maiden Plate, 1000m);
CUBAN RAIN (Provincial Class 1 Handicap, 1400m);
CONVERT (Midway Maiden Handicap, 1200m);
DEVINE OUTCAST (Benchmark 64 Handicap, 2000m); and
SATNESS (Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap, 1600m).
Devine Outcast has blinkers off, and winkers on.
Brock Ryan rides Jamarni, Commanding Belle, Cuban Rain, Devine Outcast and Satness for Team Price, and has been warmly welcomed back by the stable.
“Brock settled back into riding after his break as though he had never left,” Luke Price said.
“Cuban Rain gave him his first winner since returning when she broke through at home on June 3, and she has trained on well since.
“She looks hard to beat again, and Commanding Belle and Satness also are good chances.
“Commanding Belle has raced only three times, and was placed on debut at Royal Randwick.
“We have a good opinion of her and expect she will run well first-up even though she has drawn the outside gate.
“Satness has won seven races, and is a real warrior for our stable.
“Six of those seven wins have been at tomorrow’s 1600m.”
Keagan Latham, with 130 points, has a mortgage on another Kembla Grange riding premiership, but the Horse Of The Year title is wide open.
Team Price has current leader Invade And Conquer (34 points) and third placed Zaragoza (32), whilst Mitch Beer has fourth and fifth placed Artful Persuasion (31) and This Is The Moment (28), and Kerry Parker has second placed Equilibrist (33).
Artful Persuasion (apprentice Holly Durnan) and This Is The Moment (apprentice Mitch Stapleford) both can improve their standings with good performances against Satness in the Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap.
