THE familiar racing colours of the Throsby family have been carried to victory by many good horses.
And Edward O’Rourke is hoping he has another to sport the red and green hoops.
The Hawkesbury trainer is looking forward to debuting promising youngster Red Hot Rosie at Canterbury on Friday night.
Tyler Schiller will ride the filly in the 2YO Maiden Plate (1100m) against her own sex.
Whilst leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees’ unbeaten youngster Rivellino will carry the well-known colours for Edward Throsby in Saturday’s $2m Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday, Red Hot Rosie will be racing for a syndicate which includes his sister Edwina (and also the trainer).
“This is the first horse I have trained for Edwina, and it’s great to have her involved with my stable,” O’Rourke said.
The daughter of Capitalist was a $140,000 purchase for O’Rourke at last year’s Magic Millions yearling sale at the Gold Coast.
He was keen to secure the filly as he educated her full brother Knock Me Out (who hasn’t raced), and trialled him twice 12 months ago at Canterbury and Hawkesbury.
O’Rourke nominated Red Hot Rosie for races at both Randwick and Caulfield on Saturday, but opted for the Friday night assignment.
“She’s pretty quick,” he said of the filly.
“She won an 800m jumpout at home in 45 seconds and then ran the fastest of the four 900m two-year-old trials at Rosehill on January 23.
“Red Hot Rosie took control soon after the start (with Schiller aboard) and was never headed.”
O’Rourke’s filly clocked 54.05 seconds, and also ran the fastest last 600m (33.97secs) of the four heats.
Red Hot Rosie is an early favorite for the Canterbury race, where all but one of the nine acceptors are first starters.
O’Rourke also has Oceans One (apprentice Zac Wadick) in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury.
The six-year-old is a new addition to his team, and has raced once for him when he resumed and beat one home in a similar race at the same track on January 17 when having his first start since early August.
Oceans One is also an acceptor for a Midway Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) at Scone tomorrow.
