ROSEHILL PLANS REMAIN INTACT FOR PMC TRIO

TODAY’S Rosehill Gardens washout hasn’t altered Provincial-Midway Championships Final lead-up plans for three runners already qualified.

Well Timed (Kembla Grange), Bojangles (Wyong) and Mahogany Girl (Hawkesbury) all will still line up in respective races there at the rescheduled Tuesday meeting en route to the $1m Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick in a fortnight.

Mahogany Girl and Well Timed (pictured above) fought out the finish of a Hawkesbury Qualifier (1400m) on March 8 when the former repelled Well Timed’s challenge – and neither has raced since.

Bojangles also qualified at Hawkesbury for the PMC Final on April 12 by finishing second to Newcastle mare Rapt in the opening 1400m heat on February 20, and has subsequently also finished second (to yesterday’s Muswellbrook Cup placegetter Les Vampires) in a Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on March 15.

Trainers of the trio - Kerry Parker (Well Timed), Kim Waugh (Bojangles) and Darryll Kell (Mahogany Girl) – say they have no option but to run on Tuesday.

Well Timed (Nash Rawiller) and Bojangles (Jay Ford) contest the Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m), and Mahogany Girl (Chad Lever) will carry 60.5kg topweight in the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m).

Waugh had initially withdrawn Bojangles, all scratchings are reinstated for Tuesday’s 10-race meeting because of the forced postponement.

Waugh already has two qualifiers for the Final – Mogul Monarch ran second to Money Team in the Gosford 1200m heat on March 15 – and is chasing a third, having Northern Eyes in her home track Wild Card (1350m), which was another casualty today because of the rain and has been added to Thursday’s Wyong program.

“Well Timed needs another run before the Final,” Kerry Parker said this morning.

“There’s nothing we can do about it, and hopefully the rain clears so that we can go ahead on Tuesday.”

Parker also confirmed plans to start Let’s Go Again in the Wyong Wild Card, hoping she can fill one of the three placings to gain a start in the Final.

There was some thought of running the Wild Card at Tuesday’s scheduled Newcastle meeting before the decision was made by RacingNSW to leave it at Wyong, and add it to Thursday’s program.

“Tuesday would have suited better, but Let’s Go Again still win line up on Thursday,” Parker said.

“She is eligible for the series, so we’ll have a crack and see if we can qualify.”

Like Parker with Well Timed, Mahogany Girl’s trainer Darryll Kell said he had no option but to start his mare on Tuesday.

“I’m hoping we might get permission to give her a gallop at Hawkesbury on Sunday morning seeing as though she missed out racing today,” he said.
