ROSEHILL CHOSEN FOR ALLIRI’S HAT-TRICK BID

Provincial Racing NSW

DUAL venue acceptor Alliri will step up to Saturday grade at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow in search of a hat-trick.

Leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees has decided to bypass a Benchmark 72 Handicap (1250m) against her own sex at Canterbury tonight to tackle the “boys” in a similar race, but for three and four-year-olds, over 1200m.

“Alliri had 56.5kg at Canterbury, and has 3.5kg less at Rosehill and Kerrin McEvoy can ride the filly at her true weight (53kg),” stable spokesman Danny Greer said this morning.

“Kerrin won on her midweek on the Kensington track last time.

“Obviously she is now going to Saturday grade, but has trained on well and deserves her chance.”

A three-year-old daughter of All Too Hard, Alliri is putting together a nice record.

From only five starts, she has won twice (at home on the Beaumont track on Boxing Day in a Provincial 3YO Maiden Plate, 1200m and a Benchmark 64 Handicap, 1100m on the Kensington track on January 15) and been placed on the other three occasions.

Whilst Alliri is a Canterbury absentee, Lees will still have a number of representatives at tonight’s meeting.

RJames McDonald is also an absentee with illness, and Jason Collett replaces him on Barazin in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1900m), and Keagan Latham takes over on Oakfield Duke in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1250m).a

“Barazin looks really well placed in a race restricted to five-year-olds and upwards,” Greer said.

“He is racing in great heart and we’ll try to hold a more forward position.

“Oakfield Duke is third-up and has blinkers off, and Keagan knows the horse, having won on him at Canterbury in July last year on heavy ground.

“He comes back from two Benchmark 78 Handicaps this campaign, hence his 61kg.

“We also have French Marine in the same race, and he is racing very consistently.

“He backs up after a second at Wyong last Sunday, and apprentice Anna Roper’s 3kg claim brings him in with only 52.5kg.”

Roper, who is in dazzling form with 16 winners this month, renews a successful association with Memoria in the Evening Star Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) for five-year-olds and upwards.

Her victory on the mare at Gosford last April was the final leg of her maiden city treble.

“Memoria is resuming and has an excellent first-up record (three from four),” Greer said.

Along with Alliri, Lees takes Age Of Sail, So Newchee Thinks and Brudenell to Rosehill tomorrow.

Age Of Sail (McEvoy) and pregnant mare So Newchee Thinks (Jose Severo) both contest the Benchmark 78 Handicap (2000m), and Brudenell (Josh Parr) lines up in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m).

“Age Of Sail’s first-up run was good, and he has taken nice improvement,” Lees said.

“He should get every chance from the inside barrier.

“So Newchee Thinks has won her last two and this will be her final start before being retired, and hopefully she can go out on a good note.

“Brudenell’s third in the Canterbury Sprint (1200m) on New Year’s Day was excellent.

“He likes Rosehill., having won two from three and was narrowly beaten in the other run there, and around this time last year was running in a Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield when a close fifth.

“He has now had three runs back and looks to have a great chance.”

Lees had both Dream Hour (Andrew Mallyon) and Russian Roni in the Benchmark 85 Handicap (1350m) at Doomben tomorrow, but has withdrawn the latter.

“Dream Hour has drawn a bit sticky, but his last run after a freshen up was good when narrowly beaten at Eagle Farm on January 18,” Greer said.

. James McDonald has been confirmed as Rivellino’s rider in next Saturday’s $2m Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Royal Randwick.

McDonald partnered the Randwick debut winner when second in an 800m trial on the Kensington track last Tuesday, and was happy enough to take the Millennium mount.
