PARKER’S NEWCOMER MAKES WINNING DEBUT AT HOME

BETTER late than never!

Multiple Group 1 winning Kembla Grange trainer Kerry Parker quickly made up for lost time when the previously unraced Street Vanquisher was successful on debut at his home track yesterday.

Ridden by Chad Lever, Street Vanquisher ($10) finished with determination to lead a home a local trifecta in the Midway Maiden Handicap (1200m), defeating Ross McConville’s Creator Of World ($4.40), and Rob and Luke Price’s Yougotme ($3.90).

The three-year-old son of Street Boss is owned by Hong Kong-based Eden Wong, who races the young horse under his Kaywin Bloodstock banner.

Parker today told the story of how Street Vanquisher came to join his stable.

“I first met Eden at the Inglis Australian Easter yearling sale in Sydney a couple of years back, and he was going to give me a colt by So You Think to train which he had tried to sell there,” Parker said.

“He came and had a look at my stable as the colt had failed to research his reserve.

“However, he called back to say that a buyer had decided to pay what he was asking for, and had sold the yearling.

“I thought that might be the end of it, but then he was going to send me another horse, however something went wrong with him.

“Third time was lucky.

“Eden called again to say he was sending this young horse by Street Boss, who had contested an 800m jumpout at Geelong in September last year.

“I’ve had Street Vanquisher this preparation, and gave him one 800m trial at home earlier in the month, ridden by our apprentice Rebecca Bronett Prag.”

Street Vanquisher ran a close second in that trial to fellow Kembla Grange co-trainers Rob and Luke Price’s more experienced Zougotme, who also showed up yesterday for his 10th start (after four placings) in the same race.

This time it was Parker’s debutante who came out on top.

He was at Royal Randwick yesterday to saddle stablemate Callistemon in a Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1600m), but was a keen TV viewer as his newcomer got the job done at home.

“Street Vanquisher had trialled well, and I expected him to run well on debut,” Parker said.

“He’s still a bit raw, but it was nice to win with him for Eden at his first start, and that win certainly won’t do him any harm.

“Street Vanquisher is heading in the right direction.”

RacingNSW stewards added merit to the gelding’s performance, including in their raceday report that he raced very wide and without cover untll near the 800m.
