LIGHTLY-RACED MARE DOES THE SAME AS HER MUM

LIKE mother, like daughter!

Lightly-raced Perini Miss’ breakthrough victory at Newcastle yesterday was at the same venue, though not at the same track, as her dam, the High Chaparral mare Santorini Miss.

The latter, trained at Wyong by Kristen Buchanan, scored over 1300m on the Beaumont track on Boxing Day 2016; the sole success of her 10-start career before being retired to stud.

Concidentally, both mother and daughter were having their fourth starts when each broke through.

Four-year-old mare Perini Miss ($8.50), a daughter of dual Group 3 winner Perast (by Snitzel), ran her rivals off their legs, leading throughout in the 4YO & Up Maiden Plate (1500m) to score by nearly three lengths.

Perini Miss races in the Kurrinda Bloodstock colours, and was bred by former Newcastle Jockey Club chief executive and his business partner Colin Bell (Belsin Thoroughbreds), and Kevin Wacey (Gleneagles Stud Pty Ltd).

She was having only her second start for Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle, who notched his 15th winner of the season, after beginning her career with Stuart Kendrick at the Sunshine Coast.

“Santorini Miss’ first two foals Half Crown (by Foxwedge) and Agnodice (by Street Boss) won seven races between them,” Sinclair said today.

“Unfortunately she then missed to National Defense and Perast, who we had purchased and later onsold.

“Santorini Miss went back to Perast and subsequently foaled Perini Miss.

“We sold her to Kurrinda for $17,500 at the Magic Millions National yearling sale at the Gold Coast two years ago, and Sean Driver asked us to stay in her.

“Perini Miss had two starts in Queensland over 1200m and 1400m earlier in the year and, chatting with Sean, I suggested that perhaps we should consider bringing her to Newcastle and giving her to Nathan.

“Kurrinda has had a good association with Nathan, especially winning the Group 1 The Galaxy at Rosehill Gardens last year with Private Harry.

“It was great to see Perini Miss break through yesterday, and hopefully she can take further improvement and get over at least 1600m.”

Santorini Miss has since foaled a filly and colt by Group 1 winners Rebel Dane (2016 Manikato Stakes at The Valley) and Ellsberg (2022 Epsom Handicap at Royal Randwick) respectively.
