IBLE HAS A COUPLE OF OPTIONS WITH PRETTY SASSY

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

IT’S not Sydney or the bush! Rather the Gold Coast or home.

Kembla Grange trainer Joe Ible has the latter two options for his filly Pretty Sassy, who is building a nice record.

The four-year-old daughter of Star Turn resumed after a freshen up at Nowra last Sunday to post her third win at only her seventh start.Ible took Pretty Sassy back to the track where she had made a successful debut at the same meeting last year.

Louise Day was her rider in both wins 12 months apart.

Pretty Sassy as a $2.05 favorite beat four rivals in a Maiden Handicap (1100m) on a soft track on December 10 last year.

This time she stepped up to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Belle of the South (Benchmark 66 Handicap, 1200m) – and showed a good turn of foot in the straight to put the issue beyond doubt.

A $4.60 chance, she overcame her outside barrier in a field of nine to trail fellow Kembla Grange trainer Mitch Beer’s So Greysful ($13) before sprinting clear.

Pretty Sassy defeated Mooshaka ($8.50) by nearly two lengths, with Onigiri ($9.50) third.

Ible paid $55,000 for Pretty Sassy at the Magic Millions National yearling sale at the Gold Coast in 2022.

“Magic Millions boss Gerry Harvey bred Pretty Sassy and liked her and retained a share when I syndicated her amongst clients,” Ible said.

“She is still learning, but is going in the right direction.

“I’m sure she can develop into at least a Midway horse in town.

“We can either start her again at home on January 4, or go to the Gold Coast for a Magic Millions 3&4YO Plate (1300m) against her own sex the same day.

“We’ll see how she progresses, but no doubt some of her owners would like a trip to the Gold Coast.”

Pretty Sassy was Ible’s sixth winner this season and his career 125th, and Day has been his most successful jockey.

She has ridden 18 winners for him.

Newcastle filly Wollzeile is the sole provincial entry for Friday night’s $250,000 Magic Millions The Debut Plate (1000m) at the opening Gold Coast twilight meeting under lights.

Trainer Kris Lees paid $180,000 for the daughter of Tassort at the MM yearling sale at the Gold Coast earlier this year.

Wollzeile won an 845m trial at Wyong on November 26 in preparation for her first start.

. Leading Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup is ready to step last start Rosehill Gardens winner Be Real up to 2400m for the first time at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Be Real has trained on well since her 2000m victory on December 7 on heavy ground, and will contest another Benchmark 78 Handicap.
