NSW Provincial Champion Horse Private Harry will complete his The Everest preparation with a midweek exhibition gallop at Canterbury on Wednesday week.

The unbeaten Newcastle star’s connections received the award for the 2024-25 season in Sydney last night at a glittering NSW Racehorse Owners Association dinner.

This came on top of Private Harry winning his second trial this preparation at Rosehill Gardens yesterday morning.

With Ash Morgan aboard, Private Harry was first out of the gates and led throughout to clock 61.63 seconds for the 1030m; the fastest of seven heats.

His last 600m in 34.34secs was also the quickest of those heats.

“Private Harry was always on the bridle,” Kurrinda Bloodstock principal Sean Driver said this morning.

“He is such a competitor that he won’t let horses get past him.

“We’re very happy with him at this stage of his preparation. He is in A1 order.

“Private Harry’s trainer Nathan Doyle will take the horse to Sydney on Wednesday week for an exhibition gallop between races.

“That will top him off for his return race in The Shorts 10 days later.”

Private Harry will contest two Group 2 races - each carrying $1m prizemoney – at Royal Randwick on his way to the $20m The Everest there on October 18.

After The Shorts (1100m) on September 20, he will line up in the Premiere Stakes (1200m) on October 4, a fortnight before his richest mission.

As The Shorts is run at set weights plus penalties, Private Harry will carry 58kg (including a 3kg penalty for his maiden Group 1 success in The Galaxy at Rosehill in March).

However, the Premiere is run at weight-for-age, as is The Everest.

Private Harry was the first horse to fill one of 12 slots in The Everest, courtesy of Yulong Investments, which bought into the brilliant young sprinter earlier this year.

. Private Harry, who has won all five starts, also is expected to be named Newcastle Jockey Club Horse Of The Year for the season just gone.
