PRIVATE Harry will return to the scene of his Group 1 triumph for a Rosehill Gardens trial on Thursday.

The $20m The Everest second favorite has been drawn to contest an Open trial over 1030m against seven rivals at 8.30am, the first of 15 heats.

Private Harry, now raced jointly by a Kurrinda Bloodstock syndicate and Yulong Investments, is certain to be named Newcastle Horse Of The Year, courtesy of his five unbeaten starts in 2024-25, culminating with the now four-year-old’s major success in The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill in March.

This will be the star sprinter’s second trial this time in work, having been too classy for his five rivals in a 1000m Gosford heat on August 18 on a heavy track.

Private Harry was one of the first workers on the sand track at Broadmeadow this morning, and went three-quarter pace in preparation for his Rosehill trial.

He is scheduled to kick off his four-year-old season in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Royal Randwick on September 20, and trainer Nathan Doyle will have the option of giving Private Harry an exhibition gallop or a third trial at Rosehill on September 9 beforehand.

The Shorts will be run at set weights plus penalties (Private Harry will incur a 3kg penalty for his Galaxy victory and carry 58kg).

Private Harry also will contest the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October at weight-for-age as his final lead-up to The Everest (1200m) there a fortnight later.

Stablemate Hidden Motive also was to have trialled on Thursday morning, but unfortunately was balloted out.

Doyle’s talented mare Churchill’s Choice will begin a new campaign at the Wyong Cup meeting on September 5.

“Rachel King has been booked to ride her in the Group 3Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m),” racing manager David Dyson said this morning.

Churchill’s Choice, who has won three of her seven starts, raced well at all three runs in Brisbane during the winter.

She was runner-up in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on May 3, fourth in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on May 24, and sixth (to fellow Novocastrian, Kris Lees’ You Wahng) in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

Churchill’s Choice, ridden by Private Harry’s jockey Ash Morgan, ran third to Mogul Monarch (Saturday’s Caulfield Memsie Stakes second favorite Another Wil was second) in a 1000m Gosford trial on August 8.

“Provided the mare races as well as expected in the Mona Lisa, Nathan will look at either of two of the feature races at the Newcastle Cup carnival a fortnight later,” Dyson added.

“Those races are the Group 3 Tibbie Handicap (1400m) against her own sex, and Group 3 Cameron Handicap (1500m).”
