GREEN “SHOOTING” FOR A SATURDAY CITY BREAKTHROUGH

THE desire to shoot for a Saturday breakthrough in town for both himself and his mare has won out!

Hawkesbury trainer Peter Green has confirmed hat-trick seeker Killer Kerr will contest the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow rather than a home track assignment on Sunday.

In keeping with the theme of Killer Kerr being a “girls” jockey – the Shooting To Win five-year-old hasn’t won when ridden by men – Louise Day will attempt to complete a hat-trick on her.

Day has partnered Killer Kerr in two of her four victories, and they have been at her last two starts.

Killer Kerr, with 60.5kg, finished all over her rivals to take a Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m) at Goulburn on June 14, then doubled up to provide Green with his first city success as a thoroughbred trainer (he also drives standardbreds) in a Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m) at Warwick Farm on July 2 against her own sex.

Those two wins were on ‘Soft 5’ and ‘Heavy 10’ tracks respectively, and Green is hoping for some rain leading up to the Rosehill race.

“Her four wins have all been on rain-affected ground,” he said this morning.

“But she has trained on well since Warwick Farm, and Louise was keen to stick with her.

“Killer Kerr drops 4.5kg on her last race, and it would be fantastic if we could both share a win in town on a Saturday.”

In an open affair, Killer Kerr was at $6 this morning with TAB.com.au; Kembla Grange trainer Paul Murray’s Harry’s Bar (Jean Van Overmeire) heading the market at $3.50.

. First-up winner Cloudland will get a similar set-up as he attempts to make it two Rosehill Gardens victories in a row tomorrow.

That’s the opinion of trainer Kris Lees’ stable spokesman Danny Greer for the grey gelding’s assignment in the Benchmark 88 Handicap (1300m).

Josh Parr partnered Cloudland in his barnstorming resumption triumph in a similar race at 1200m at Rosehill on July 5 when he overcame an awkward draw, and has the mount again.

Cloudland carried 57kg then and rises 2.5kg, and again has drawn awkwardly (nine in a field currently reduced to 12).

“Cloudland has a brilliant first-up record, and whilst his second-up stats aren’t as good, he has won and been placed twice,” Greer said this morning.

“Tomorrow’s race looks to set up well for him again.

“There is plenty of pace, and hopefully Josh can get him to slot in with some cover and then finish off as he did a fortnight ago.

“He has trained on well and is in great order.”

Greer also is not fazed by Tasoraay’s wide draw in a Benchmark 72 Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill.

Dylan Gibbons goes hack on the lightly-raced three-year-old after being narrowly beaten on him over 1400m at Rosehill on June 14.

“Things didn’t work out last time for Tasoraay, but he was still beaten only one and a half lengths,” Greer said.

“He goes up slightly to 1500m and has the pace to roll across and take up the running.

“If that happens, Dylan will be able to control matters up front and I’m sure he can put in a similar performance as he did two starts back when narrowly beaten by Don’t Forget Jack.”

Brudenell (Gibbons) is the stable’s other Rosehill acceptor in the July Sprint (1100m), but he has 61.5kg topweight and has drawn poorly.

“The map looks a bit tricky for him, and a decision will be made before the 7.30am scratching deadline in the morning whether he lines up,” Greer said.

Meanwhile, Changingofthe guard remains on track to head south for s 2500m Quality Handicap at Flemington on August 2.

The import galloped between races at Newcastle last Tuesday, and put in a nice piece of work.

Changingoftheguard resumed in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill on June 14 and ran well until his condition gave out over the last 200m, at his first start since finishing second in the Group 3 Colin Stephen (2400m) at the same track on September 28.

He may trial at Gosford on Wednesday.
