GREEN GETS THE JOB DONE AT ORANGE
PETER Green was back in the winning list at Orange today with a mare who had been “retired”!
“It’s been a long time,” the Hawkesbury trainer said as he prepared to make the return trip home after scoring with Alideel in the opener, the Maiden Handicap (1600m).
Ridden by Chad Lever, Alideel ($6) enjoyed the run of the race in defeating Iron Rebel ($5.50) and Woolllen ($4.40).
Green not only was relieved to get his first winner in nearly 12 months, but also to complete a mission with the well-bred mare.
“Alideel was retired after five starts without a placing, and was put online in January this year,” he said.
“Greg Andison, who was one of the mare’s original owners, decided to buy her back and paid $20,000 through Inglis.
“Alideel is a beautifully bred mare by Dundeel out of a Redoute’s Choice mare (Aliberani) and my task was to get a win with her.
“Chad (Lever) gave her a lovely ride.
“He had her first out of the barrier, then settled her a couple of lengths off the two leaders.
“Chad made his move approaching the home turn and she was a bit too good for the runner-up.
“Whilst it wasn’t the easiest of wins, at least I can say the job is done.”
Alideel was a $160,000 buy at the 2023 Inglis Classic yearling sale.
She is a full sister to Mare Of Mt Buller (five wins including the Group 3 Epona Stakes, 1900m at Rosehill Gardens last year) and half-sister to So You Think mare Light Up TheRoom (three Queensland wins).
Green’s previous winner was Bold And Blazen at Wyong on November 16 last year, and he actually won three races (two with that horse) the same month.
Coyote also scored for him at his home track’s Ladies Day Cup meeting.
The versatile horseman, who also drives pacers, says he is not doing much of the latter lately.
“I have eight horses in work at Hawkesbury, and am really focusing on them,” Green said.
“Hopefully, our next winner is just around the corner.”
Green was the 15th Hawkesbury trainer to enter the winner’s circle this season.
