COOPER ENJOYING HIS TRAVELS WITH $2000 PURCHASE
NO one can ever accuse John Cooper of not wanting to travel with his horses.
Especially eight-year-old gelding Just One Look, who added another victory to his tally at yesterday’s Mudgee non-TAB meeting.
Ridden by Kody Nestor, Just One Look ($7.50) defeated Commando Jack ($4.40) and Extreme Merger ($4.20) in the Benchmark 50 Handicap (1400m).
Just One Look has won eight races; four of them for Wyongtrainer Cooper since he purchased him just over two years ago.
Cooper didn’t need to take a second look when he secured him online in August 2024 for only $2000.
So far this preparation, the Dawn Approach gelding has really been racking up the “miles”.
He raced at Tuncurry on May 9, Tamworth (June 6 and October 1), Port Macquarie (July 4 and August 22), Gunnedah (July 20), Kempsey (September 5), and Queanbeyan (October 11).
Just One Look also won a 1250m Benchmark 50 Handicap at that Kempsey meeting last month.
He has sure covered some kilometres on the road, but his trainer says he handles the travel with ease.
“Just One Look is a terrific horse to train,” Cooper said.
“He eats, sleeps and drinks and going in the float to these country meetings doesn’t bother him at all.
“It doesn’t matter if he goes on his own or with another horse. He is as good as gold.
“He was the only horse I took to Mudgee yesterday.
“Just One Look is sound and loves his racing.”
Cooper is looking forward to returning to his native Hay for the annual Cup meeting on November 21.
He plans to take Just One Look and stablemate King OfDragons.
Cooper won a Benchmark 45 Handicap (1400m) with Just One Look at Hay 12 months ago, and also finished second with Mega Fight in the Cup (1400m).
But he plans to travel again with Just One Look before heading back to Hay next month.
“We might go to Kempsey for a Benchmark 58 Handicap (1250m) at the Cup meeting on November 6,” he said.
