BRISBANE A “CARROT” FOR PROMISING WYONG 3YO

IT may have been the unkindest cut of all – but it’s turned I Am Carrot into a racehorse.

And a very promising one at that.

A Brisbane winter sojourn is now on the agenda for the three-year-old following a city breakthrough at the Kensington track yesterday.

Ridden by Jason Collet, I Am Carrot won the Graduation Benchmark 68 Handicap (1300m) against his own age run under special conditions.

It was his third victory from eight starts, and his Wyong trainer Nacim Dilmi’s 30^th in his maiden season as Domeland’s head trainer.

A son of dual Group 1 winner Castelvecchio, I Am Carrot fetched $90,000 when sold at the 2024 Inglis Premier yearling sale in Melbourne.

“I Am Carrot is a very well-bred horse (his dam Ten Carat Rock is closely related to the likes of Redoute’s Choice, Platinum Scissors and Manhattan Rain, etc),” Dilmi said.

“He had three starts as a two-year-old, including a placing at the Kensington track and also went to Brisbane last winter for one run in a Listed event), and Domeland was in two minds whether or not to geld him when I started there at the beginning of the season.

“It soon became obvious that if we wanted a racehorse, he had to be gelded and it has certainly done the trick.

“From five starts this season, he has won three and been second in the other two.

“That was a good win yesterday in a strong midweek race.

“We’ll see how he comes through it in the next few days, but it’s looking likely he will go back to Brisbane.

“There’s a nice race (the Group 3 Fred Best Classic, 1400m) at Eagle Farm at the end of the month which should suit him.”

. Dilmi will run both Aix En Provence and Viewpoint at Scone’s metropolitan meeting on Saturday, in the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1700m).

Apprentice Mollie Fitzgerald claims 3kg on Aix En Provence, reducing his weight to 58.5kg, and Kerrin McEvoy rides Viewpoint (57kg).

The latter is the current $4.20 favorite with TAB.com.au, and Aix En Provence is at $8.

“I did also accept with both at Doomben on Saturday, but they are staying here to run at Scone,” Dilmi said.

“Aix En Provence has now had three runs back, and Viewpoint was a beaten favorite (fifth to Bella Khadijah) over 1500m at Hawkesbury’s Saturday metropolitan meeting a fortnight ago.

“He had been an impressive winner at Hawkesbury first-up, and I’m looking to him to bounce back on Saturday getting up in distance.”

. Dilmi will trial another promising three-year-old Probability Theory over 1200m at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

“Rachel King is riding at Scone tomorrow, so Tommy Berry will ride her in the trial,” Dilmi said.“He isn’t a stranger to Probability Theory, having won a Provincial Maiden Plate (1300m) on her at Hawkesbury last October.”

Dilmi has Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) plans for the filly, and will be in a better position to decide a suitable lead-up to the fillies’ classic after she trials at Randwick.
