TRACEY Bartley had an ace up his sleeve when he went to the 2022 Inglis weanling sale to buy Lot 411.
The All Too Hard “baby” from Wildwood Dancer was a half-sister to a promising filly named Marillier, whom the Wyong trainer prepared.
“Marillier (by Deep Field) had only a handful of starts and won two races,” Bartley said on Tuesday.
“She started favorite in a 3&4YO Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) at Warwick Farm in December 2022, but was galloped on and her rider Josh Parr eased her out of the race.
“Unfortunately, she severed a tendon and that was the end of her brief racing career.
“I had a good opinion of her, and was keen to buy her half-sister (by All Too Hard) once I knew she was in the sale.
“We got her for $10,000.”
Racing as All Too Wild, the now three-year-old is raced by Stratheden Stud and the trainer’s wife Tracy, and broke through at Tamworth on Monday at only her third start.
After a bumping duel after straightening with Newcastle trainer Kris Lees’ three-year-old and $2.60 favorite Impressionism, All Too Wild was strongest at the end to take the Maiden Handicap (1200m), collecting first prize of $13,950 along with a BOBS bonus.
“She is a gorgeous filly, and would have won easier if Mikayla Weir had stayed near the fence and gone inside the favorite to make her run,” Bartley said.
“I didn’t push her after we bought her, and that’s why she didn’t race as a two-year-old.
“We are giving her every chance to make the grade, and I think she will be allright.
“I hope so as Stratheden Stud are good supporters of our stable, and my wife also is a part-owner.”
Whilst it appears to be up, up and up with All Too Wild, there is a sad note to this story as Bartley explains.
“Only a few days after we bought All Too Wild in May 2022, we also paid $95,000 for the filly’s dam at the Inglis broodmare sale,” he said.
“She was in foal to Deep Field, and would have produced a full relation to Marillier.
“Tragically, she died giving birth (but thankfully was insured) and we lost the foal as well.”
All Too Wild was Bartley’s fourth winner of the season, and his career 544th, which includes three Group 1s with Sniper’s Bullet (2007 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm, and 2009 Railway Stakes-Kingston Town Classic double at Perth’s Ascot racetrack).

Fellow Wyong trainers Rodney Bailey and Damien Lane were in the winning list at Taree on Tuesday.
Bailey sprang an upset in the Maiden Plate (1609m) with $31 outsider Hongkong Harmony, ridden by Jenny Duggan.
Lane was successful with Oakfield Peewee ($1.90 favorite) in the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1408m), giving jockey Aaron Bullock his third winner at the meeting.
