ALL'S WELL WITH HARRY AT STUD

GROUP 1 winner Private Harry has settled in well at his new surroundings, ready to embark on a new career at stud.

Kurrinda Bloodstock boss Sean Driver (pictured above) recently visited the now five-year-old stallion at Segenhoe Stud (now owned by Yulong Investments) in the Hunter Valley, and was thrilled with his appearance.

“Private Harry looks fantastic,” Driver said today.

“He is in for a very busy first season at stud.

“Private Harry will begin serving mares from the first week in September.

“My understanding is that he will serve a number of Group 1 winning mares, and a lot of outside mares.

“Yulong are giving him every opportunity to make a name for himself in his first season.”

Private Harry (Harry Angel – Happy Pilgrim) will stand at a fee of $33,000 (including GST).

Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle clinched his maiden Group 1 winner with Private Harry in

The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens in March last year when ridden by Ash Morgan.

He retired with five wins from his nine starts, and earnings of just over $2m.

Meanwhile, Hunter-based syndicator Kurrinda already has the early favorite So You Pence for the $2m The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 16 – and plans to give yesterday’s Randwick winner Ready To Rush the chance to also pick up a berth in the feature for country-trained horses.

At only her fourth start, the five-year-old mare posted her third success when taking the Class 3 TAB Highway (1000m) at her first outing since the Snake Gully Cup meeting at Gundagai last November.

Kurrinda in partnership with Ready To Rush’s trainer Matt Dale paid $100,000 for her at the 2023 Magic Millions yearling sale at the Gold Coast.

Like her talented stablemate So You Pence, it has been tough going getting her to the races, hence her limited career to date.

“Ready To Rush has had knee problems, so much so that she has undergone three operations on each of her front knees (six in total),” Driver explained.

“She went well in a recent jumpout with So You Pence and Rose Aye (who ran fifth in a 1200m Benchmark 78 Handicap against her own sex at Randwick yesterday).

“Thus it was worth the gamble taking her to town yesterday.

“Whilst So You Pence is certain to get picked up by a winning ticket holder for The Kossie and will go into that race fresh, Ready To Rush won’t race again for a number of weeks.

“Rachel King rode her yesterday, and hopefully will stay on her.

“That next run will determine whether she gets the chance to join her stablemate at Randwick in mid-October.”
