JOINT second favorite Far Too Easy is out of tomorrow’s $1m The Hunter at Newcastle, further reducing the field to 12.
The gelding, who arrived in Newcastle from his Murwillumbah base yesterday morning, bumped his head in a freakish accident whilst being exercised on one of the Newcastle Jockey Club’s walkers at the stables around 2.30pm.
Whilst the wound above Far Too Easy’s eye is superficial, it required some stitches and as such he had to be medicated to enable this process to be carried out.
“It’s shocking luck for Far Too Easy’s trainer David McColm, who is understandably shattered,” Newcastle trainer Steve Hodge, who was stabling the gelding for his tilt at The Hunter, said.
“Horses use the walkers at the stables every day without drama, and this was one of those things that you never expect to happen.”
After McColm advised RacingNSW stewards of the situation, the gelding’s withdrawal from The Hunter was confirmed.
As a result of his shock withdrawal, Group 1 winner and topweight Mazu is now a dominant $3.20 favorite, ahead of Coal Crusher ($5) and Mazu’s stablemate King Of Sparta ($5.50) in a $8.50 bar three market with TAB.com.au.
